Impromtu Beach Trip

I took a little trip down to the Venice dog beach Saturday evening. I was surprised that there weren't more doggies out enjoying the nice weather, but I did manage to capture some fun shots of the few that were there.

First - It's a bird, it's a plane...AND it's a dog!

Notice the little guy below...

I spotted these next two just hanging out enjoying the view. They caught my eye because not only were they beauties, but they do something my dogs never seem to do on the beach - relax.

I have to add a special thanks to the nice couple who graciously allowed me to interrupt their peaceful evening to take a few pictures of these two. And what great models they were!

Meet Dexter!

It's been a fun-filled doggie-photographing weekend and I'm exhausted...but I couldn't resist posting a few fun shots of my favorite Dobe puppy Dexter.

We had a lot of fun today, and since the only thing better than a funny dog face, is a funny puppy face, here are some great puppy tongue shots...

Close up...

Isn't he adorable!?

Another Gotcha Day!

Two Gotcha Days in one week - something tells me that June must be my month for puppy fever! It was four years ago yesterday (and yes I'm a day late - again), we brought home the cutest little spotty girl ever.

At the time, Pongo was almost 10 years old and I wasn't quite sure how he would take to a puppy in the house. After many, many hours of agonizing, I decided to give it a chance...and looking back, I can't imagine what life would be like if I hadn't.

Since I was really missing horses at the time (I had just moved from Indiana and had to leave my horse behind) and had the training itch, I enrolled her in puppy classes at SOTC (Sarasota Obedience Training Club). She was a shy little girl, and I remember during play time rather than play with the other puppies, she would run back & forth through the tunnel they had set up. That was our first introduction to agility and we've been hooked ever since.

Agility has done wonders for Indy's confidence. Even though we've hit several roadblocks along the way (it took a year for her to do the teeter), she absolutely loves it. When I think about how far she's come from the scared, shy little puppy I started with, I sometimes find it hard to believe.

I could go on and on, but to keep it short - Indy is my special girl. She's sassy, bossy, a little weird, and has more personality than she knows what to do with. But she's also incredibly sweet and tries very hard to please.

So here's a few of my favorite puppy shots...as you can see, she came with attitude!

And - In honor of Indy's Gotcha Day, I decided to take a few pictures. I got the distinct impression that she wasn't too happy to be celebrating a day late.

And just in case you think she's not really serious...

Happy Gotcha Day (I know, I'm late) Indy!

Funny Faces

I absolutely love capturing funny dog faces, and the spotties are usually good for quite a few. Here are some recent ones that make me smile...

Happy almost Friday!

Peyton's Gotcha Day!

Hard to believe, but two years ago yesterday (yes, I'm a day late) I picked up the little spotted monster from a rescue in Orlando. I wasn't really looking to add another spotty to the family - okay so I was kinda looking - but when I saw his listing on Petfinder and those dark soulful puppy eyes, I just had to bring him home.

He's been a perfect addition to our House of Spots ever since. Not a day goes by that he doesn't make me laugh out loud. He's my clown - and a constant reminder not to take life so seriously. Even though he can be a handful at times, I can't imagine life without him.

Happy Gotcha Day spotty boy!

CPE Trial - Indy vs. Dogwalk

Indy and I went to a CPE trial this past weekend. I'm not a huge fan of CPE - yet - but their trials are great for training and working through issues. For the last year, Indy has had a love/hate relationship with the dogwalk. Sometimes she'll do it without hesitation, and other times she won't go near it. At this trial location in particular, I could never get her even close to the dogwalk - in countless attempts - until this weekend when she NAILED it.

Yay Indy! I'm soooo proud of her...it was late (a night trial), dark, and rainy - I totally expected her to run past it, but she proved me wrong. What a brave little spotty girl!

We ended up qualifying in 2 out of 3 runs, with a first place in both jumpers and standard. Our third run was snooker and well, we got snookered. :)

She looks quite pleased with herself, don't you think?!

Beach Spotty!

Indy looooves the beach. There a some great dog beaches in the area, but to her dismay we don't get the opportunity to go very often. This past weekend we met up with some friends at the Ft. Desoto beach and Indy had a blast! This was our first beach outing this year, and only Indy's third time swimming in the Gulf. She finally decided last year that she was brave enough to give it a try.

Despite her slight bug-eyed look, she's actually a good little swimmer! Our outing reminded me why I moved to Florida, and hopefully we can make time for several more beach trips this summer.

Welcome!

My name is Kim, and I'm a dog nerd. I'm also a photographer...so combined, I guess that makes me a (slightly) nerdy dog photographer!

I'm owned by three spotty dogs, and together we live in the (crazy) House of Spots.
I'm looking forward to sharing my photography, my spotty adventures, and basically all things "dog" here.

Thanks for stopping by!
