NDR - A Lesson in Fair Food

Tonight's special edition post is especially for Jenn, who apparently does not know what an elephant ear is. *Gasp* *Shock* *Horror* - Jenn, say it ain't so!

This, my friend, is an elephant ear...

A big ol' plate full of deep fried doughy goodness smeared with butter and then covered in cinnamon and sugar - guaranteed to immediately add a few pounds, but oh so yummy!

And here I've always though that elephant ears were about as American as apple pie! Every summer they were at the very top of my "must have" list at the county and state fair. We even have them at the county fairs down here, but I have to say that they aren't nearly as good as the ones back in Indiana. Yes, I am very particular about my elephant ears. :)

Seriously Jenn, no elephant ears in Massachusetts? Really??

The light dawns ..... OK so we have elephant ears - but we just call it fried dough! :-) I am not sure they use butter up here. I think they pull it out of the fryer and give it to you to dose with cinnamon and sugar. yummmm now I need to go find a fair!!!

I don't know if it counts as an elephant ear without all the butter! :) What about funnel cakes and fried twinkies...do you need a lesson in those too? Note, I don't like either, but thought I would check. :)

One of these days I think you need to come to Florida so we can swim with sharks and eat elephant ears. :)

Yup they are 100% lip licking/thigh sticking for sure!

LWD, you're a (drooling) rockstar...and much too kind, thanks! :)

That looks good... but I must admit I've seen them around but never tasted 'em!

OK - I've heard of funnel cakes ... not sure if I have ever had one. LOL But seriously - fried TWINKIES?????

Oh I think I definitely need to make a visit down at some point! Clearly I am missing out on a lot of things!

Yup fried twinkies and I think they even have fried peanut butter cups - if you can fry it, I'm pretty sure they have at the state fair. I'm thinking the risk of heart attacks in Indiana must go up during the month of August... :)

And she is thrilled to find a spotted dog blog! She has LOVED Dalmatians ever since she first saw 101 Dalmatians as a little girl. I am certain we will be visiting you again and again!
