Peyton and I headed up to Tampa for an AKC trial today and we didn't get off to a great start considering I missed our JWW walk through - oops! I tried to come up with a plan from watching some of the other dogs, but it was less than successful. Peyton did pretty well considering I had no idea where I needed to be - as if I don't have enough trouble with courses when I actually do walk them!
Our second run was Excellent Standard and I wasn't thrilled with the opening, but thought if we could make it past the first three jumps, the rest of the course was manageable. Unfortunately right when we entered the ring the team before us finished with a TON of cheering and clapping - I thought they might have gotten their MACH, but heard later that they had their first Q in a really long time. So hooray for them (and I do mean that sincerely), but all the hoopla caused Peyton to lose his (already excited) mind and I'm just surprised that he didn't end up in the rafters when we started. After he came back to earth, the rest of the run was decent. I could tell that he had to work very hard to hold those contacts - so good spotty dog for trying so hard when I knew he was about to jump out of his skin!
So overall, not a great day, but it could have been worse. We've got a 2-day local AKC trial next weekend followed by a weekend of USDAA, so hopefully I can at least manage to make it in time for our walk throughs. Ahhh, the ups and downs of trialing!

Glad to hear that you guys didn't freeze!! We're having a little break from the cold up here, too. So now instead of having a foot of snow, we have MUD!
Boy, you really could see from the video how ramped up Peyton was on his Standard run. He was practically jumping out of his spots on those contacts, but what a good boy for holding them so well!
As you know from doing agility all these years, you have ups and downs. Hopefully, the ups outnumber the downs, but we went through almost a year period where Tess wouldn't do the teeter. Now she's running consistently well and it's easy to forget about those frustrating times. A few bumps in the road are to be expected, but all you need to do is look back at how very far Peyton has come in the past year.
BTW, we were cheering for Peyton's namesake in the playoffs today!

And you are so right, as usual. :) I'm always proud of Peyton, no matter what he does. I know he's trying so hard...
