More Derby Adventures

It's hard to believe, but Derby pup will be 6 months old next week. Again, what happened to my "puppy"...he's looking so grown up these days!

We've had a busy, busy week. Last Saturday he joined me at the Celebration of Pets in Sarasota - it was a huge event and he met hundreds of new friends. It was also a very long day (10+ hours) and he was *such* a good puppy. Here's a picture of him manning my booth.

He has since demanded a big raise and a new title (Public Relations Manager, of course). :)

Yesterday we made a 3 hour trip north for a Dalmatian "fun day" and Derby got to give coaching a try. So fun! He took to it right away...very cool to see that instinct kick in.

And here's a little video...

Good boy Derb! As much as I love agility training, and training in general, nothing beats seeing a Dal doing what they were bred to do. I'd love to start some road trial training with him once he grows up and matures a bit. Of course, I'd also love to have a horse again. Derby too...he especially enjoyed their "cookies". :)

Wow I wish we had road trials in Canada.. they never really took off here :(

That's too bad! Although I don't think there are that many trials down here...the Florida trial only had 3 entries this year.

FANTASTIC!!! So glad to see that Derby enjoyed coaching. It is quite exciting to see these spotted dogs do what they were bred to do. Even though we don't compete in the Road Trial until April, it has been the thrill of a lifetime to train Jazz and be around horses again. You certainly have the requisite horsemanship skills! I haven't ridden in more than 30 years. And by the way, we are doing all of this without a horse of our own, although there is a running poll at the barn on how long it will be before I get a horse!!!

Derby looks like he did a great job coaching...and he's not a bad PR director, either!

Ah Lisa, you need a horse! That would be awesome! :)

Sadly, I haven't been on a horse since I moved down here.

I think you need to share some of your RT training on your blog. (hint, hint)

Thanks Elizabeth! I don't know what happened...there must be something in this Florida water! :)

And Sherri...well you *do* like hockey. Not sure that says much about your taste. ;)

Oh my that picture of him manning the booth is so adorable!! I'm getting the puppy fever. He is looking grown up that's for sure. That must be so much fun doing the coach thing. I want to teach Chrome to drive soooo bad! I wish you could have a horse again too. The two years I was without one was sooooo awful! I spent all my time indoors and never went outdoors unless I absolutely had too lol. Horses keep me happy. Puppies too. :)

Thanks all!

I do miss horses, but thankfully the spotties keep me too busy to think about it too much. :)
