To wrap-up our trial recap from last weekend - Sunday was an okay-ish day. There was a delay before our standard run and I let Peyton get a little too wound up while we were waiting...and boy, was he wound tight! He took the triple 4 times (twice backwards). It was comical...we haven't had a run like this in a while so I guess we were overdue. :)
I think we were both kind of drained by the time JWW came around so my only goals in this run were 1) to not watch the pretty spotty dog and 2) keep him out of the off-course tunnel. Goals accomplished! A few bobbles, but it was a nice, smooth, quiet run. A nice way to finish the weekend!
We might not have a great Q-rate, but I couldn't ask for a better partner and teacher. Every time we play this game, he teaches me something new...one of these days I *should* be a very good handler!
We played snooker in class last week, and despite my usual opinion of the game, we had so much fun! Peyton was ah-mazing...three challenging courses with wraps and crosses galore - he was fast, super responsive and had some really tight turns. Even though he's usually pretty consistent in class, he still surprises me with moments of brilliance - fun!
A few people have been asking about when Indy will be making her AKC debut and I'm thinking it will probably be in the fall. With my workload lately, I haven't had much time for *any* training and even though Indy could probably handle a novice JWW course just fine, I'd like to get her back in "agility" shape first. I know she would enjoy running again, although I'm not sure AKC will be her cup of tea. We'll see. :)
On a totally different note, we've been on losing end of a flea battle down here. I'm not sure about everyone else, but this has been the *worst* year for fleas and ticks! Usually we'll have a 2-week period where they come and we conquer, but for some reason they just won't go away. It's not that we have an infestation, but it only takes one flea for Peyton to have a reaction. (He currently has a lovely mix of black and pink spots.) I've tried every natural remedy that has worked in the past and I would rather not go the chemical route - any ideas?

I go with the chemicals :) Sentinal is a heartworm prevention that has flea "birth control" in it. It will help get rid of the population slowly that lives outside.
Comfortis is my new best friend. It is a monthly flea pill you give them. It is a huge pill for larger dogs and it smells horrible, BUT it does such a great job.
The down side to both of these drugs is they are both expensive, but they really get the job done.
Sorry! We have been pretty fortunate up here in PA with the flea situation so far. Ticks are more the problem here. I agree about not going the chemical route if you can avoid it. I just bought bandanas that are treated to repel mosquitoes, ticks, ants, flies, chiggers and midges (whatever those are). It can be washed 70 times and still be effective, and it's odorless and safe for puppies. So far, so good. The real test will be Thursday evening. We take a class in an open building and the mosquitoes have been swarming in because of the lights. I'll let you know how it works this week. I ordered them from SmartPakCanine.com and they are relatively inexpensive and may be worth a try for you.
I'm sorry that Peyton is being "bugged," but the thought of him with his black and pinks spots all over gave me a chuckle. Poor boy!
I've heard good things about Comfortis...might have to give it a try if all else fails.
Lisa, those bandanas are interesting. Wonder what they are treated with? Peyton is so sensitive (in more ways than one!)...I have to be careful with what he comes in contact with. Although at this point, I can't imagine that we'd end up with much worse than the pink spots...purple maybe?
So far it's been so dry that the mosquitos haven't come out in full force, but I expect that will soon change. Makes me itch just thinking about them!

Kim, I'm sorry to hear about your flea infestation, BUT I must admit this has been the worst year for my girls! I never had to resort to chemical help with my dal... the fleas just never seemed to prefer him, for whatever reason. My aussie girls (going on 7 yrs old!) have usually been the same... no flea issues. This is the FIRST year I've seen fleas, and it's not a mild case at all -- hubby even treated the lawn with bug stuff. I just ordered some K9 Advantix for the first time. I really hate to use it, but just don't know what else to do... at this point, it looks like they both have a case of flea allergy dermatitis, so it's bad!!
